Pillar 2 – Safety, Roadway, Traffic and Parking

If you ever thought
“That Junction is dangerous”
or
“Why don’t we get the Speed camera”
or
“We need more parking spaces”

What this group will do.

This Pillar asks those interested to become involved in laying out the village with an eye to Pedestrian crossings, traffic calming, road widening/narrowing, traffic layout at the village green junctions and pedestrians. This group will have consideration of safety and accessibility for road users, both pedestrian and vehicular. Connecting the village constituent parts will be an important aspect of this groups work. You will work closely with the Pillar 1 group, streetscape, pedestrians and bicycles and with the local roads manager, Brendan O’Gorman to secure funding and appropriate designs.

Currently under way in this section:

An Urban Design Landscape architect is being employed by RCC to complete a design of the village. RCC envisage that this group will help that person out with ideas and local knowledge by meeting with them and discussing the village layout. We hope that any major capital funding required will come from the Rural Regeneration Programme over the life of the plan, along with the Cork County Council Roads budget.

Other areas of Interest include

Traffic Calming, Parking and Safety

This is possibly the most capital intensive aim of the plan. The need to work with the county council is crucial, but we can have a large input into their designs, if we go to them with ideas and solutions.
