Pillar 3 – Recreation, Walks and Open Spaces

If you ever thought
“We could do with a better Playground”
or
“I’d love to be able to teach my child how to ride a bike safely”
or
“Wouldn’t it be nice to have a place to go for a walk with my elderly parents”

What this group will do.

This Pillar asks those interested to become involved in pushing for high quality open spaces that can be used by everyone, young and old. Open space is important for mental well being, socialising, families meeting together, children playing and just generally a healthy lifestyle. The UCC research identified the lack of open spaces in Rathcormac and this group will seek to address that. The image below displays an early plan for the sports hub, but we have the Playground to address, the Fair Green and Elma's Wedding garden too. So lots to do!

Currently under way in this section:

A plan is currently being commissioned to redesign the whole village green area to get it to planning stage. This will include a landscape architect design and engineer drawings with the intention of opening up the village green to the public and developing the school to be used as efficiently as possible. Also underway is the Rathcormac Community Park and Sports Hub. Phase 1 is now almost complete and Phase 2 will be starting shortly. This will see a track put in place with plans for lighting it. There is further work to be completed including installing a racing track, MUGA, and tennis courts, as well as a family area. Finally, RCC have spoke to the developers about meeting their obligations to provide playing grounds in the respective developments, by investing into the current playground rather than creating new separate ones. We have received positive feedback from them and now must try and get the County Council Planners to agree. This work is on going.

Other areas of Interest include
