Pillar-7 Heritage Culture and Tourism

If you ever thought
“There is a lot of historical interest in the Bride Valley”
“I’d love to know more about who lived here before me”
“The landscape around here is beautiful”

This is the group for you!

What this group will do.

Of all the groups, this one takes a view of the wider context of Rathcormac, Castlelyons, Ballybrowney, all the way up to Conna. From the bronze age forts, burial chambers and villages to the middle age castles and Abbey, through to the Tithe wars and Revolutionary wars, the Bride Valley is a synopsis of the History of Ireland. If you have an interest in maintaining the cultural heritage and an appreciation of the beauty that surrounds us then this group will seek to maintain and ensure that future generations will not forget what it is that they have when visiting or living in the Bride Valley. Identifying tourism opportunities and helping to make Rathcormac a destination for curious historians, becoming part of the Hidden Ireland Trail, and simply maintaining our rural lifestyle and landscape whilst not forgoing the opportunities that development brings will be the aim of this group.

Currently under way in this section:

No less than 2 studies are currently being commissioned to identify the best of our cultural landscape and how we can develop the tourism industry in the Bride Valley, under the rural regeneration programme. UCC will identify the cultural and landscape attributes and a Cork based tourism consultancy will complete a tourism opportunities study. This study should identify how we can best use the assets we have such as open countryside, quiet country lanes and a river winding its way though the valley.

Other areas of Interest include

Music, Drama, Food Festivals, Fishing Tourism, Equestrian and Cycling.
